| Biography: |
Jones had one of the best freshman seasons in USF history. He led the team in scoring at 17.1 points per game and his scoring average jumped to 18.2 in conference play, the best of any freshman and third best in the league. Jones shattered the USF freshman scoring mark by tallying 531 points on the year. The previous freshman record was 455 set by B.B. Waldon during the 1998-99 season. He also became the first freshman in USF history, and only the third USF player ever, to score 30 or more points in back-to-back games. He was the first BIG EAST freshman in 13 years to score 30 or more points in consecutive games. The last BIG EAST freshman to accomplish it was Georgetown’s Allen Iverson in December of 1994.
Jones, a 6-4, 205-pound guard, averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists a game as a senior at Lake Wales High School.
He averaged 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game as a junior, helping the Highlanders to a 22-5 overall record and a trip to the district semifinals. He was an all-state selection for his efforts and was named News Chief Player of the Year, awarded to the top player in the county.
Jones attended All Saints’ Academy in Winter Haven, Fla., as a freshman.
Jones was a member of the Florida Nike Elite AAU team and was invited to the Nike All-American Camp last summer.
