Rutgers Head Football Coach and architect of the revival of the New Jersey based program discussed the 2008 Footbal class with members of the media on Wednesday afternoon. Schiano indicated the chief characteristics that were adressed by the arrival of his newest pupils: height, in combination with speed.
Rutgers Head Football Coach Greg Schiano discussed his eighth recruiting class as head football architect at the University. "It's nice to see the common thread [among incoming players] - it's that we have some taller, skilled guys, but if you look at our league you need to have that ...", stated Schiano while discussing an apparent theme amongst the newest Scarlet Knights.
Indeed, looking across the RU commitment list, the single, most common trend is that of skilled and taller players (e.g., Morgan Carter, who may actually be closer to 6-foot-4 as opposed to 6-foot-3). Players like Carter are versatile enough to allow the RU staff to experiment with different athletes among the different offensive and defensive positions. In actuality, this is an additional piece of good news for fans and coaches alike, namely that the incoming players may play a variety of positions, offering significant flexibility.
