Will Kirksey Remain With Rutgers?

Kenneth Kirksey

Defensive tackle Kenneth Kirksey was at Rutgers and taking part in the summer workout program, but had to leave when the NCAA ruled he was not going to be eligible. The Mainland High (Daytona Beach, Fla.) product is heading to a prep school, and spoke to ScarletReport.com abut his plan after that. Is he still committed to Rutgers? Or is his recruitment back open? Kirksey discusses it inside.

Kenneth Kirksey's time at Rutgers was limited.

He arrived after the second summer session began because of an academic situation, and left before the start of training camp when the NCAA passed on information he would not be cleared.

However, the few weeks he was on campus was enough to support the notion his original decision was the right one.

Kirksey, an imposing defensive tackle, will play this fall at Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy, and plans to enroll at Rutgers in January.

"I'm staying committed to Rutgers," Kirksey said. "I love it up there. I love the coaches. They always help me and get me in shape. I don't want to have to go to another school and learn their whole workout routine all over again when I know what I'm expected to do at Rutgers already."

Kirksey starred at Mainland High (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and committed to the Scarlet Knights on signing day.

He is back in Florida now, and will leave for Fork Union in the next week.

But he will clearly have an eye on the Scarlet Knights in the fall.

"When I went up there to Rutgers, I had a bond with the players," Kirksey said. "It's a great school. It's where I want to be, and where I want to go."

Kirksey said the class work he must complete at Fork Union still needs to be determined, and he acknowledged he is longing for being in training camp with the Scarlet Knights. It is especially difficult since Kirksey believed he satisfactorily completed the necessary course work to meet the NCAA's requirements for eligibility.

"I felt like I should have been able to stay (at Rutgers), but the NCAA said I had to leave," Kirksey said. "I think I should have done my work earlier and then it wouldn't be an issue."
