Gause, who is 6-foot-2, 215 pounds, is the third member of the 2011 class to commit to Rutgers.
"I decided to do it today because I feel it's a great place to get my degree, and win a BCS championship,'' Gause said. "I had things in my mind set already, but I just wanted to confirm it. I wanted to see more things in-depth, like the education, internship, and things educationally-based.''
In delaying his announcement last week, Gause said he wanted to wait and make sure he didn't have any reservations about his commitment, and when he made it, he wanted to end the recruiting process.
This most recent trip to Rutgers comforted Gause's feeling about the situation.
"I got to check the campus out, and I was able to get a more in-depth look at everything at Rutgers,'' Gause said. "I tried not to put too much pressure on myself. I could definitely tell how this process can make your head explode, especially somebody in my area. They don't get a chance to experience a lot of this stuff.
"A lot of people in my area (Rochester) for the class of 2011 and 2012 have gained a lot of experience, going to combines and stuff. It's a great process. I don't want to beat it down but you could say (there is less pressure).''
As a junior, Gause made 114 tackles, including six sacks.
