Florida CB Receives Rutgers Offer; Eyes Visit

In the same week a Florida cornerback received an LSU offer, he also got one from Rutgers. He now holds more than a dozen offers, and in discussing his summer visit schedule, said "I'm definitely looking at Michigan, Rutgers, Iowa (and) Iowa State.'' The player talks about what he is looking for in a school, what he knows about Rutgers and how a five-star receiver could factor into his decision.

A few months ago schools were voicing concern about South Fort Myers (Fla.) High cornerback Dallas Crawford's size, but more than a dozen offers later, it doesn't seem to be quite the issue.

In the last week Crawford, Scout.com's 29th ranked cornerback, picked up offers from Rutgers and LSU. Both are schools he plans to visit in the summer.

"I'm going to go to Miami. I'm going to take a visit LSU. I want to go to Iowa,'' the 5-foot-10, 183-pound Crawford said. "If I can get a flight cheap enough, I'll definitely go up (to Rutgers). I'm definitely looking at Michigan, Rutgers, Iowa (and) Iowa State.''

A dual-threat player, Crawford threw for 2,629 yards and 25 touchdowns and ran for 422 yards and five scores as a quarterback. As a cornerback, he had 43 tackles and 10 interceptions.

He is being recruited by many schools as a cornerback, but schools are also mentioning receiver as a possible position.

Crawford mentioned he was a little surprised about Rutgers' offer, but he plans to explore the program and give them a chance in the process.

"It was unexpected,'' Crawford said. "I've gotten mail from them, but haven't talked to any of their coaches much. It caught me off guard. I'm going to look into them and see what they say.''

Although Crawford holds offers from traditional powers LSU, Michigan, Miami and Tennessee, don't expect him to get caught up in the hype of a program.

"No leader yet because I'm not just going to pick a team off a name,'' Crawford said. "I'm going to get to know coaches I'm not going to go somewhere and be a small fish in a big pond. If I have to red-shirt, then I have to red-shirt.

"I have to feel at home. The atmosphere has to be good, academics have to be good. I'll look at the coaching staff, and the opportunity to play.''

One of the interesting parts of Crawford's recruitment is his close friendship with five-star receiver and South Fort Myers teammate Sammy Watkins.

They two have talked about going to school together, and that remain the case. Both players hold offers from Rutgers, as well as a number of other schools.

"We're still trying,'' Crawford said. "Now that I'm getting some of the big offers, it's looking more and more possible.''
