Walker has a Favorite

Mo Walker

Rutgers is in the market for a least one big man, and have been recruiting Brewster Academcy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) center Mo Walker. Recently, Walker re-structured his recruiting list, and has a clearly defined leader. But who is that leader? And are the Scarlet Knights still in it? Walker answers those questions and gives more insight into his recruiting in the latest update.

Rutgers' recruitment of Brewster Academy (Wolfesboro, N.H.) big man Mo Walker hit a snag when he went home for spring break and re-shaped his list.

After trimming his list to four schools, including Rutgers, in late February, Walker possible destinations changed dramatically. He could wind up committing to Minnesota at the end of his official visit, which is April 9-11.

Walker said if he doesn't commit to Minnesota, he will likely trip to Marquette. He said Rutgers, Georgetown, Connecticut, Virginia, Providence and Seton Hall were also on his list, but clearly were not at the top.

The 6-foot-10, 265-pound Walker listed Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Seton Hall as his top four in late February.

"With Rutgers, I guess the other schools moved ahead of them,'' Walker said. "They still call me a lot and I talk to them, but the other schools moved ahead of them.''

Walker, who is from Toronto, Ont., said a combination of coach Tubby Smith and having family in Minnesota are making the Golden Gophers an attractive choice.

"Those were the schools on the top of my list at that time,'' Walker said. "I'm more leaning toward Minnesota right now. I like Tubby Smith as a coach. I like that I have family out there. It's an up and coming program. It's possible I could commit during the visit.

"The other schools have a chance. But if I go to Minnesota and like what they offer, then I'll commit.''

If he does not commit to Minnesota during the trip, Walker said Marquette was next in line for a visit.

"I want to visit Marquette,'' he said. "They've been interested in me a long time. I know they don't have a player like me in the program. I know I'll play as a freshman.''
