The twisting and turning recruitment of Edward H. White running back Casey Turner ended with the Jacksonville (Fla.) running back signing with Rutgers, according to the school’s athletic director John Gwynes.
"He just signed with Rutgers,'' Gwynes said.
Turner did it during an assembly at the school moments ago, choosing the Scarlet Knights over North Carolina.
It comes after his coach, Terry Gilliam, told ScarletReport.com late Tuesday it appeared Turner was heading to New Jersey.
“I spoke to his mom and it looks like he’s going with Rutgers,’’ Gilliam said. “She told him he should go with his gut and Rutgers is the place for him to make his mark.’’
Getting a signed national letter of intent from Turner would be the latest coup in for the Scarlet Knights, who made a big splash Tuesday with the commitment of three highly rated prospects.
Turner gives the Scarlet Knights a second running back in the class, joining fellow Jacksonville star Jawan Jamison of The Bolles School.
It also the latest turn in his recruitment. Turner committed to Florida International in the fall but switched the Rutgers in December. After a trip to North Carolina in January, Turner switched again, committing to the Tar Heels.
However, the Scarlet Knight remained dogged in their recruitment of Turner, and it apparently paid dividends.
“I’m happy with it if he’s happy with it, and that could be any school,’’ Gilliam said. “I don’t have a dog in the fight. I just want him to go to the place he wants to be at.’’
