THIS, THAT AND THE OTHER

Brooklyn Poly Prep-

Fourth in the Series on Local Prep Schools

Brooklyn Poly Prep has won six consecutive New York City Ivy Prep League titles while playing a very competitive non-league schedule.  Ninth year head coach, Bill McNally, leads the Blue Devils.

Like many of the prep schools in New Jersey Poly Prep is a fine blend of athletics and academics.  Prep athletics is not only known for its basketball but also for its football team that for many years was coached by former Scarlet Knight, Dino Mangerio.

This year’s basketball team returned three starters from the 18-10 team that reached the private school state championship last season.  A familiar name rules the center position for the Devils, Joakim Noah.  He is the son of former tennis great Yannick Noah. He is academically a junior but athletically a senior and according to an informed source will most likely attend Lawrenceville Academy next year.

The 6’10” center is rather wiry. He runs like a gazelle and has developed offensive skills that allow him to play in the hole or on the perimeter. Colleges in the ACC, Big East and Big Ten are noticing Joakim’s defensive presence and rebounding abilities. He will need to weight up and gain upper body strength without losing speed to become a high major recruit next year. According to our source in NYC all three local Big East teams have been monitoring him.

Senior leadership comes from co-captains A. J. Ciccone and Max Margenu.  Senior forward Osaze Ogbahon is also considered a team leader. The all-junior backcourt of Charlie Parker and Liam Biesty can handle as well as score.  They gained valuable varsity experience last year. The Devils also count on swing Danny Corrigan for bench contributions.

Talented 6’6” freshman Jabari Henley Edwards and 6’3” sophomore Peter Ajayi help out on the boards.
