As Rutgers comes upon
the rugged Big East Basketball schedule, they would like to invite you to
join the Scarlet R in the Coaches'
Huddle - a pre-game meal featuring Rutgers Athletics. The Huddle gives
you an opportunity to gain an inside look at the opponent Rutgers will be
facing that night with a brief scouting report by a member of the basketball
coaching staff. Each Huddle will also showcase the coach of one of our 30
intercollegiate athletic programs. In addition, the event will provide a full
buffet-style meal prepared by Rutgers Catering. The cost for each person is
$10 - with and additional $5 for those who would like to have beer or wine
with their meal.
To reserve your
spot or to ask questions, please reply back to Keith Norton at Norton@winants.rutgers.edu
directly.

It's no secret that Rutgers
has a floundering football program and that, when it comes to recruiting in
South Jersey, the Scarlet Knights usually lay a big fat egg.
It happened again Wednesday, national signing day. Rutgers, the birthplace
of college football in 1869, somehow was shut out in its own backyard. It
did not sign one player from South Jersey, which, as we all know, is annually
one of the nation's most fertile areas for future college players.

Women's Basketball
After putting together
five straight victories, Rutgers returned to the national rankings yesterday
as the No. 23 team in the Associated Press Top 25.
The Scarlet Knights (14-5, 7-2 Big East) made a brief appearance in the poll
earlier this season, debuting at No. 23 on Jan. 20. But they quickly fell
out after losing on the road to Virginia Tech, 66-64 in overtime, on Jan.
22.
Because of that early exit, Rutgers coach C. Vivian Stringer was reserved
in her reaction to re-entering the rankings.

Men's Basketball
Rutgers is coming off
a hard-fought come-from-behind 75-72 victory over Boston College on Saturday.
Playing the entire 40 minutes, 6-10 junior forward Herve Lamizana matched
his career high with 22 points, grabbed eight rebounds, dished out a career-high
7 assists and added three blocks and three steals. For his efforts, Lamizana
was named BIG EAST Co-Player of the Week.
GEORGETOWN
(10-9, 2-6) at RUTGERS (10-10, 2-6)
Two teams, identical in
conference records and last minute game performances, will face each other
at the Louis Brown Athletic Center, as the Rutgers men's basketball team hosts
Georgetown tonight at 7 p.m. for the battle of sixth place in the west division
of the Big East.
The Hoyas (10-9, 2-6), who are winless on the road this season, are entering
the RAC losers of five straight, with their last win coming in the contest
against Rutgers (10-10, 2-6) last month.

sixth
The Scarlet Knights were
talking madness. Maybe not March Madness, but madness nonetheless.
Just three games removed from a six-game losing streak, and with a good month
warming last place in the Big East already in, Rutgers spent Monday talking
about a postseason run. What sort of magic do the Scarlet Knights expect?
"Hey, it's not unreasonable," sophomore guard Ricky Shields said.
"We were thinking about going 9-0. We got one."

Content with Kent
Rashod Kent popped into practice Friday, and coach Gary Waters doesn't want
him going anywhere. The Barkley-esque Kent - who spent the fall with the Houston
Texans after graduation - was Rutgers' defensive stopper a year ago, a physical
forward in a linebacker's body. And, Waters keeps saying, the reason Rutgers
was so dominant at home last season.
Rutgers
mens' notebook
Rutgers University men's
basketball coach Gary Waters can empathize with counterpart Craig Esherick,
whose Georgetown Hoyas ride a five-game losing streak into tonight's battle
to stay out of last place at the Louis Brown Athletic Center. Both coaches
have endured stretches during which they have lost seven of eight games. Both
coaches have watched their teams blow their share of second-half leads. Both
coaches have lost key post players who were involved in fights with teammates.
Both coaches own 2-6 Big East records and find themselves battling for the
West Division's sixth and final conference tournament spot.

The rumbling of the muffler
and smell of exhaust signal the arrival of NC State coach Chuck Amato, clad
in a black leather jacket and cruising down a hall of ancient Reynolds Coliseum
on an Indian motorcycle.
It's 100 percent Amato: flashy, bombastic and, most of all, unforgettable.
How else would you expect the nation's best recruiter to arrive at a signing
day news conference when he has NC State's top recruiting class ever and one
of the best in the land? On a moped wearing a button-down shirt and khakis?
