Annoucement
As Rutgers comes upon
the rugged Big East Basketball schedule, they would like to invite you to
join the Scarlet R in the Coaches' Huddle - a pre-game meal featuring Rutgers
Athletics. The Huddle gives you an opportunity to gain an inside look at the
opponent Rutgers will be facing that night with a brief scouting report by
a member of the basketball coaching staff. Each Huddle will also showcase
the coach of one of our 30 intercollegiate athletic programs. In addition,
the event will provide a full buffet-style meal prepared by Rutgers Catering.
The cost for each person is $10 - with and additional $5 for those who would
like to have beer or wine with their meal.
To reserve your
spot or to ask questions, please reply back to Keith Norton at Norton@winants.rutgers.edu
directly.

Sundays game marks
the 38th meeting between the Scarlet Knights and Panthers. Rutgers leads the
series, 22-15. In BIG EAST regular-season games, the series is tied 6-6. Pittsburgh,
which has won the last three meetings, was the only team to sweep the Scarlet
Knights last season, defeating Rutgers 66-58 at the RAC on January 8, 2002
and posting a 78-59 victory at home on Feb. 21, 2002.

Bobby Brownlie will make
his final pitch on Jan. 20 to convince the Chicago Cubs that his right arm
is healthy and worth an investment of millions.
That's when the Rutgers right-hander will throw from a mound for Cubs GM Jim
Hendry at the University of California-Irvine. If Brownlie's father, Rob,
doesn't hear an offer that pleases his son and his advisor, Scott Boras, Brownlie
plans a return to Rutgers for his senior year.

The recruiting battle
for running back Jamar Brittingham has begun - again.
Brittingham led Neshaminy to the PIAA Class AAAA football championship in
2001, rushing for 2,575 yards and 30 touchdowns. He verbally committed to
Rutgers but decided to attend Kiski School, a prep school in Saltsburg, to
improve his grades.
While his statistics last season were not as impressive as those in 2001,
he rushed for 888 yards in nine games as Kiski School went 6-3.

Paulsboro High School
running back Isaac Redman confirmed on Wednesday night that he was strongly
leaning towards verbally committing to the University of Iowa during his official
visit which begins on Jan. 17.
Redman said that Syracuse, which he visited in mid-December and was a front-runner,
is no longer under consideration. Redman was also considering Rutgers, Temple
and Kent State.

Around the Big East
When the shock of its
loss to Ohio State wears off, Miami will start to look toward getting to the
2004 Sugar Bowl, next season's national championship game. But the Hurricanes,
while very talented and always a factor in the title chase, likely won't make
that trip to New Orleans.
Miami must replace quarterback Ken Dorsey, who leaves school with a 38-2 record
as a starter. The favorite to take over is Brock Berlin, who was considered
by many to be the nation's top quarterback coming out of Shreveport (La.)
Evangel Christian Academy in 1999. But Berlin sat out 2002 after transferring
from Florida, and he threw just 87 total passes in two seasons at Gainesville.

While Major League Baseball's
Bud Selig weighs the reinstatement of Pete Rose and the NFL's Paul Tagliabue

this weekend as the titular head of college athletics.
The position, however, is president of the NCAA. Not commissioner. Brand,
who addresses the opening session of the association's annual convention Sunday
in Anaheim, Calif., is settling into a job with considerably less power than
his pro-league counterparts.
If it holds any at all.
