Jamil Merrell Takes A Trip to Rutgers

Four star prospect Jamil Merrill is a two-way player with "around 6-to-8 offers" with Rutgers in that mix. He was recently at the school for the game against North Carolina.

Jamil Merrill can get it done on both sides of the ball and was named First Team All-State as a defensive end and tight end. Schools are recruiting him as a defensive player and on Scout.com he's rated as the 13th best weak side linebacker in the country.

As a junior, he recorded 98 tackles and registered 17 sacks. He was named Lineman of the Year in Delaware.

Merrill said he had around "6-to-8" offers and Rutgers is one of the schools that have sent an offer his way. He was in attendance for the game against North Carolina, and while the result wasn't what he was expecting, he did say he had a nice trip to Piscataway.

"I met with Coach Schiano and Coach Susan," Merrill said. "It was a great atmosphere."

Even though the team is off to a rough 0-2 start, he had good things to say about the Rutgers program. He also said he stays in keeps in touch with the coaches on a regular basis.

"It's a good school with good people," he said. "(The coaches and I) stay in contact through emails and all that."

From Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Tech in Newark, Del., he's been in touch with players that have ties to the Scarlet Knights' program. Four star commit Duron Harmon, is someone he's close with and they've talked about the Big East school.

"Same things as I just said about the program," Merrill said about his conversations with Harmon. "It's a good school, with good people, and a good atmosphere."

He also plays on the same team with current Rutgers' player Desmond Wynn's little brother.

Right now he doesn't have a top five and he said he hasn't focused as much on recruiting since it's football season. He doesn't plan on committing to a school until the season ends.

"Probably after the season, I'll talk it over with my family," he said.
