Ajavon, a Nancy Lieberman Award Nominee

The 9th annual Nancy Lieberman award, an honor granted to the top point guard in the nation, has named its finalists. Among the final nine are a pair from the Big East conference and Rutgers' own Matee Ajavon.

Matee Ajavon, the senior Guard from Newark, NJ, has been named as one of nine finalists for the 9th annual Nancy Lieberman award. Ajavon, who played in 32 games as a junior, started 28 of them, while averaging 12.0 points, 3.8 assists, 3.1 rebounds and 1.7 steals per game.

This season Ajavon is averaging 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and is just 2 assists shy of the century mark. Ajavon leads the Scarlet Knights from the free throw line, shooting 77% from the charity stripe.

The Nancy Lieberman award honors the nation's top collegiate point guard in women's Division I basketball. The nominees were voted upon by sportswriters from across the country. They will also select three finalists from the list of nine including the winner at the beginning of April. The final three standing and the winner will be announced during the Final Four Weekend (April 6-8, 2008) with the award being presented at a luncheon at The Detroit Athletic Club on April 23, 2008, in Detroit.
