LOI Day Video: Marquis Hamm
Marquis Hamm
By
Matei Georgescu
Posted Feb 7, 2008
"Watch out for me, 'cause I'm coming," stated Hamm in an interview conducted with SOR on National Signing Day, at New Brunswick HS [New Brunswick, NJ]. Hamm, a long and lean athlete brings as much upside as any other player in the 2008 class. He's blessed with athletic ability and unlimited potential and Rutgers is fortunate to keep this athlete home.
SOR had an opportunity to join
Marquis Hamm
alongside his family to dicuss the joyous occassion of National Signing day.
Personally, it was an enjoyable experience, as it always is when meeting such young men that are so well-spoken and articulate - but one aspect as relates to Hamm stood out.
Three years ago during my travails around the state of New Jersey, attempting to find that next rising star, Coach Quinn was gratious enough to permit me to attend one of his squad's practices. At the time, two young men stood out, both having just completed their freshman high school season. They were both tall, rangy, and seemed to have that quality about them that screamed out impending success. After meeting with both that warm and sunny afternoon, I recall calling Don "Big Dog" Forbes - my football mentor from day one - and commenting to him about a pair of Garden State kids that we're all going to hear about a few years down the road.
Those youngsters have now grown into young men:
Brandon Smith
and Marquis Hamm.
SOR was fortunate to be on hand for the New Brunswick HS Signing Day ceremony held on February 6th. The Zebras, known for their long-standing tradition of athletic excellence, will be sending three of their own to the next level: Marquis Hamm (
Rutgers
), Brandon Smith (Michigan), and
Paul Vigo
(Colorado).
Below, SOR presents to you a video presentation of the New Brunswick HS ceremony including an interview with Hamm and his immediate family.
