Coach Greg Schiano yesterday
defended his decision to play true freshman quarterback Ryan Hart during Saturday's
45-14 loss to Syracuse, emphasizing the need to get Hart experience as well
as the uncertain injury situation surrounding starting quarterback Ryan Cubit
and backup Ted Trump.
For
Rutgers, you just gotta have Hart: decision to play freshman QB adds drama
to a souring season
Ted Trump walked gingerly through the visitors' dressing room at Syracuse,
toward the locker designated his for the day. Head bowed, he helplessly looked
for something to stuff in his gym bag, trying desperately to avoid eye contact.
Honest, open, and generally talkative, the senior quarterback is one of the
most stand-up players on Rutgers' roster. Trump never shies away from blame,
and is always generous with his comments. But Saturday, at Syracuse, Trump
struggled to put two sentences together. Inserted to replace injured starter
Ryan Cubit, he was yanked two quarters later - for a freshman who was supposed
to be redshirted.
Schiano
driven to desperation
Standing in the end zone
of the empty Carrier Dome after Saturday's 45-14 loss at Syracuse, Rutgers
football coach Greg Schiano explained his decision to burn the redshirt year
of true freshman quarterback Ryan Hart.
He said he based it "almost exclusively" on the fact he suspected
the elbow injury suffered by starting quarterback Ryan Cubit in the first
quarter was "more serious than a one-game injury."

Commentment - Basketball
It will be a big announcement;
everything concerning Rice's 7-3 center Shagari Alleyne is. But it may not
be that big of a surprise when the senior announces today where he will play
his college basketball.
Alleyne is expected to choose Rutgers over Kentucky, as sources close to him
confirmed he was leaning that way as of the weekend.

High School Prospects
Albert Young didn't carry
the ball from his running back spot until the opening drive of the second
quarter.
However, the senior did touch the ball on Moorestown High School's second
play of the game, a 45-yard pass from quarterback Matt Hegarty.
"I knew I was going to get the ball, so I wasn't worried," said
Young, after accumulating 239 yards on just 11 carries as Moorestown overwhelmed
an undermanned Paul VI team, 53-0, Friday in a Burlington/Olympic Football
League game.

During the game, they
had made him mad enough to commit a personal foul. After it was over, though,
a stream of Virginia Tech players walked over to Temple defensive lineman
Dan Klecko, checking up on him, looking to find out why he had not been out
there in the second half, raising havoc, getting double-teamed.
