Caleb Ruch selects Rutgers

The foundation of a good team is good linemen. As Rutgers looks to ascend the ranks of major college football, they will look to obtain the services of some of the best linemen in the region. In the past few months, the Scarlet Knights have added some "Grade A Beef" to their 2007 commitment list. They have continued on this trend with the commitment of two-way standout PA Caleb Ruch.

Ruch selected the Scarlet Knights over offers from Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Temple, and Akron. This two-way standout stated that he "loved the coaches and the chance to play for a championship. After talking to the line coache and viewing the records over the past years, you can see the record constantly going up. I hope to make them an even better team.".

During previous interviews with Ruch, he stated that he wanted to wait before making a decision. However, he saw that his top schools (Rutgers and West Virginia) were running low on scholarships for offensive lineman. Therefore, he accelerated the process and made his commitment this morning to an excited Coach Schiano. The Knights distanced themselves from the rest of his suitors with weekly handwritten letters along with various other correspondence. Since they were unable to call him, his high school head coach informed him about what the school was saying or feeling about him.

During the summer, Ruch attended one day of the Rutgers football camp. Although it was a relatively brief visit, the camp gave him the opportunity to get familiar with the campus and the facilities. He also had an opportunity to get to know some of the other prospects in camp. One of the prospects that he got to know was Edwin Alvarez and he was happy to see that he had already committed to play for the Knights. Ruch was also happy to see and get a chance to know fellow PA star Dave McClain. As a high school freshmen, the two played against each other. As a result, they had a lot of stories to share with each other.

At Rutgers, Ruch intends on playing center or guard where he feels his aggressiveness and explosiveness can be best utilized by the ever improving Big East program. He plans to redshirt his freshman year to improve upon his 315lbs bench press and more than 500lbs squat. But he feels that he will have a chance to compete for playing time as a redshirt freshmen.

For now, he will focus on getting his high school team to the playoffs and looks forward to his official Rutgers visit.
