Nagurski Trophy Watch List for Greene

Courtney Greene, the hard-hitting, run supporter that is entering his Sophomore season at Rutgers has been named to the Nagurski Trophy Watch List for the 2006 season. This is a pre-season accolade given annualy at the conclusion of the year to the top defensive player in the nation.

Safety Courtney Greene of the Rutgers University football team has been named to the Football Writers Association of America pre-season Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List for the 2006 season. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is annually awarded to the top defensive player in college football.

Greene, a 6-1, 180-pound sophomore from New Rochelle, NY, is one of 56 players named to the list. Greene emerged from last season's pre-season training camp as a starter in the defensive backfield, and averaged 9.7 tackles per game, second best in the BIG EAST Conference. Greene led Rutgers with 116 tackles, and posted double digit tackles in eight of 12 games.

Greene, who earned Freshman All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America Scripps, The Sporting News, Rivals.com, and CollegeFootballNews.com, helped lead Rutgers to a 7-4 regular season record and a third place finish in the BIG EAST. The Scarlet Knights also earned a berth to the Insight Bowl.

The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is sponsored by the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The recipient will be selected from the FWAA's 11-man defensive team that is chosen at the conclusion of the 2006 season.
