"We knew that after the horrendous performance against Ramapo that we had to step it up and show New Jersey who the number one team in the state is," stated St. Joe's two-way standout Chris DellaFave after this morning's scrimmage against Elizabeth.
Indeed, the St. Joseph's Green Knights came out with a different focus this morning.
On the very first play from scrimmage, with Elizabeth on the offense, both outside linebackers came in and penetrated Elizabeth's front line. Sr. Chris DellaFave reached the opposition's QB and Sr. SAM LB Junior Gallete helped finish the play.
The Green Knights marched down the field on their first possession and it became evident that any signs of rust that had seeped through in their first scrimmage had quickly dissipated.
Sr. TB Anthony Ferla continued to show his comfort level on the offensive side of the ball by rushing for two touchdowns, one on a sweep and the other on a counter.
Sr. Terrence Klein, St. Joe's jack-of-all-trades on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball had a big run on a counter. The combination of Ferla and Klein in the St. Joe's backfield will pose a difficult challenge for opposing defenses this year.
Defensively, Anthony Ferla [CB] added several open-field tackles, Chris DellaFave added a sack that set the tone from the opening whistle, and Terrence Klein added two impressive hits.
Notes:
Junior Gallette, who missed the first scrimmage, was back in the starting line-up for St. Joe's.
St. Joe's will next be in action this upcoming Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. as they travel to Montclair HS.
