Margolis Commits to Rutgers

West Nyack (N.Y.) Clarkstown South athlete Eric Margolis made his commitment to Rutgers just 13 hours before he plans to sign a National Letter of Intent to play in the Big Ten. Margolis discussed his future position and what led to a quick decision.

Eric Margolis received a Rutgers offer, and had a decision made instantly. Hearing the news Tuesday evening from defensive coordinator Joe Rossi, Margolis was quick to commit to the Scarlet Knights.

Margolis will sign with Rutgers Wednesday morning, where he will come in as a linebacker.

"I'm just on cloud nine right now," he said. "I'm literally lost for words. This is unbelievable. I've been working so hard to earn this chance on the football field. My dream has come true and I'm lost for words."

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Margolis officially visited over the weekend, but did not immediately receive an offer. The staff made the decision to offer him this week, and it was an easy decision.

"It's a family," he said. "From the moment I stepped onto the campus, the players and coaches treated me like a son and brother. That's one thing that I love about it. They're there for each other. They have each other's back. That's what I like about Rutgers."

Margolis played on both sides of the ball in high school, and was told linebacker is in his future with the Scarlet Knights.

"They like my size," Margolis said. "I'm going to work hard every day. Any way I can help out this football team, I'll do. I'll do the little things, and I'll bring passion and hard work.

"In the defense I ran this year, I basically learned to play outside linebacker. It's nothing that I'm afraid of. I feel like I'm able to pick up on it very quickly. I'm not afraid to learn. I'm going to help out this team."

Margolis was unsure if an offer would come, but said he knew he would end up at Rutgers.

"It's going to be a great experience," he said. "I'm so blessed to have this happen to me. I'm still lost for words – very proud."

Margolis is the second linebacker commit in the class, joining Weequahic's Sidney Gopre.
