Rutgers coach Kyle Flood and former Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen are close to a deal to bring him in as offensive coordinator. Friedgen interviewed for the vacant position over the weekend, and is the front-runner to replace the departing Ron Prince

With National Signing Day quickly approaching, Rutgers and Ralph Friedgen are close to a deal that would bring him in as offensive coordinator, sources said.

Friedgen interviewed with coach Kyle Flood this weekend, and a deal is close. Friedgen would replace Ron Prince, who left two weeks ago to take a position with the Detroit Lions.

Friedgen was well decorated during his decade at Maryland. He won five bowl games and went 75-50 before his firing in 2010.

Before Maryland, Friedgen spent 23 years as an offensive coordinator at stops that included the San Diego Chargers, Georgia Tech and Maryland.

Friedgen has a background based in offensive line, but also has experience with quarterback development.
