Rutgers will play Notre Dame at Yankee Stadium after its win Saturday night against South Florida. The Scarlet Knights secured a bowl bid, and accepted an invitation to play in the 2013 New Era Pinstripe Bowl following the victory.

Rutgers lives to see another game with its 31-6 victory Saturday against South Florida, and that matchup comes in the form of Notre Dame in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Rutgers accepted a bid to play at Yankee Stadium in its final game as AAC members.

“We're really excited to go back to Yankee Stadium," said Rutgers coach Kyle Flood. "I think it's a really attractive matchup. It's a very attractive matchup to our fan base."

Rutgers (6-6, 3-5) was a heavy favorite for the Pinstripe Bowl going into the matchup, and returns after beating Iowa State there two years ago.

The bowl game marks the second straight for Flood and the third in a row dating back to Greg Schiano and the 2011 Pinstripe Bowl.

Notre Dame formally accepted a Pinstripe Bowl invitation Saturday morning. The Fighting Irish (8-4) have their own ties to New York and are expected to bring a strong fan following.

Notre Dame is the home of former Rutgers targets like safety Elijah Shumate (Don Bosco), linebacker Michael Deeb (American Heritage), receiver Will Fuller (Roman Catholic), defensive lineman Jarron Jones (Aquinas Institute) and cornerback Rashad Kinlaw (Absegami).

“Quite simply, we are thrilled to bring our football program to the New Era Pinstripe Bowl,” said Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly in a statement. “We were privileged to play in New York City and Yankee Stadium in 2010. The treatment our University received from the Steinbrenner family, the New York Yankees and the entire organization was unlike anything we’ve experienced in my tenure at Notre Dame.”
