Rutgers football coach Kyle Flood took center stage at Yankee Stadium Friday night when he threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Flood, a native New Yorker, fired a pitch to catcher Austin Romine before the start of a game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Rutgers continues to establish itself as the college football team in New York City. Second-year head coach Kyle Flood received a pop at Yankee Stadium Friday night when he threw out the ceremonial first pitch less than a week before the start of training camp.

Flood brought his family to the Bronx in one of his final stops before heading to Newport, R.I., for AAC Media Day and the start of the season.

Flood’s last on-field experience at Yankee Stadium came in 2012 as an offensive line coach when he helped lead Rutgers to a victory over Iowa State in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl.
