Former Rutgers guard Jerome Seagears returns to the program this summer after leaving Auburn. Seagears transferred following Mike Rice’s dismissal but will now return to Rutgers and is eligible for immediate playing time.

Guard Jerome Seagears signed paperwork today to return to Rutgers after a spring transfer. Seagears received an unconditional release from Auburn this week and can be immediately eligible for action with the Scarlet Knights.

"I believe everything happens for a reason and God has a plan for everybody,” Seagears said. “I believe this is his plan for me, to return home to my Scarlet Knights. I have experienced a lot of uncertainty over the last several months and I look forward to continuing my college career where it started.”

Seagears received his release from Auburn after asking to return closer to home following the Mike Rice scandal. He is expected to join the team this month for the Jersey Shore Basketball League and enroll for the second summer session.

Seagears asked for and received his release during the Rice scandal but did not feel comfortable during his enrollment at Auburn. Close with Myles Mack and assistant David Cox, he chose to return to Rutgers and play for newly hired coach Eddie Jordan.

“We are very excited to welcome Jerome back into the program,” Jordan said. “He is a very talented young man from a wonderful family. I look forward to providing Jerome and his teammates an extremely positive Rutgers experience. We are going to work together and build a program that will be a source of pride for the Rutgers community.”

Seagears’ signature leaves one scholarship roster spot open for Jordan for the 2013-14 season, where he is expected to target a post player that can defend the rim.
