Though early in the process for Preston, he named Rutgers, Illinois and N.C. State as the schools of interest that are recruiting him the hardest. Al three have plans or already came to see him this spring.
"I haven't actually been to any of their schools, but I've seen all of them play and like watching their defenses," said Preston, who checks in at 6-foot-2, 210 pounds. "I talk to them the most. I like all three of them."
Preston said new Rutgers defensive coordinator Dave Cohen is the most involved in his recruitment. Cohen also coaches linebackers for Rutgers, where Preston is being recruiting on the outside.
"He's just a cool, honest guy," Preston said. "He likes to just tell you how it is and that's really important. He likes to joke around and tell you how it is at Rutgers."
Relationships with the coaching staff is a top interest for Preston, who is interested in a summer decision.
"All three of them have great coaches," Preston said. "I feel very comfortable with the guys recruiting me at Rutgers and Illinois and N.C. State and, also, some of the newer schools. I have to be able to get good coaches that I like."
Visits will come in the summer for Preston, whose only visit this spring was to the Miami spring game.
"I've been down there before but it was really nice," Preston said on his visit. "It was good to see them actually play live. It was exciting."
Preston hopes to visit Rutgers, Illinois and N.C. State during the summer, but said nothing has been set up and he will defer to his coaches in getting visits scheduled.
