Rutgers DC Smith Headed to Tampa

Rutgers defensive coordinator Robb Smith will leave the program to join Greg Schiano on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff.

Rutgers coach Kyle Flood must now search for a defensive coordinator, as well as an offensive play-caller. Long-time Rutgers assistant Robb Smith will join Greg Schiano's coaching staff on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Smith replaced Schiano as the defensive play-caller for Rutgers this year and was the lone assistant to remain on staff during the transition to Flood's tenure.

Smith held various Rutgers positions during a four-year tenure, including special teams coordinator. He worked closely with defensive backs in addition to his role as defensive coordinator.

Flood must also find a replacement in recruiting for Smith who established strong ties in Central Jersey.

Linebackers coach Dave Cohen is a high candidate as a replacement, sources said. Cohen has play-calling experience with Western Michigan, Delaware, Fordham and Hofstra.
