Rutgers coach Kyle Flood must now search for a defensive coordinator, as well as an offensive play-caller. Long-time Rutgers assistant Robb Smith will join Greg Schiano’s coaching staff on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Smith replaced Schiano as the defensive play-caller for Rutgers this year and was the lone assistant to remain on staff during the transition to Flood’s tenure.
Smith held various Rutgers positions during a four-year tenure, including special teams coordinator. He worked closely with defensive backs in addition to his role as defensive coordinator.
Flood must also find a replacement in recruiting for Smith who established strong ties in Central Jersey.
Linebackers coach Dave Cohen is a high candidate as a replacement, sources said. Cohen has play-calling experience with Western Michigan, Delaware, Fordham and Hofstra.
