Carter Flips to Rutgers

Brighton (Rochester, N.Y.) linebacker Devan Carter flipped his verbal commitment to Rutgers after taking a weekend official visit. Carter becomes the 22nd verbal commitment in the class of 2013 and second from New York.

Brighton (Rochester, N.Y.) running back Devan Carter flipped to a solid Rutgers commitment following an official visit over the weekend. Carter, who was a soft verbal to Syracuse, re-opened his recruitment following the departure of coach Doug Marrone and decided on Rutgers.

Carter is the third running back and 22nd prospect committed to head coach Kyle Flood's 2013 recruiting class. The 6-foot-2, 217-pounder has the potential to play multiple positions.

"Devan has been in contact with Rutgers for a long time, long before the changes were made at Syracuse and it's a place he's always felt comfortable," said his head coach Stephen Lian. "He loves [running back coach Norries Wilson] and I know he's really excited to play for him. He loves coach Flood."

Carter visited Syracuse last night to meet with coaches before coming to a decision this morning.

"He's done now, Rutgers is where he's going," Lian said. "He slept on it and still felt great about his decision and decided to commit."

Carter joins friend and fellow Rochester, N.Y., native Quentin Gause at Rutgers. Gause hosted Carter on his official visit and enters his third year in the program.

He will come in as a running back in the Rutgers system with the chance to also work at fullback, Lian said.
