A predetermined result of Thursday night’s game between Rutgers and Louisville, the loser would be headed to the Russell Athletic Bowl. With the rest of the college football weekend playing out, Rutgers will be set for the bowl game with an official announcement coming tomorrow.
The matchup could not be determined until the Florida State and Georgia Tech game because of ACC seeding. With Florida State winning, Rutgers (9-3, 5-2) is expected to face off with Virginia Tech (6-6, 4-4) out of the ACC. The game itself cannot be finalized until the BCS releases schools from consideration.
The game takes place at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla. It is the first bowl game for Rutgers against the ACC since defeating N.C. State in the 2008 PapaJohns.com Bowl in Birmingham, Al.
Rutgers brings an impressive five-game winning streak in bowl games, most recently in a defeat of Iowa State at the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. The Scarlet Knights have not lost a bowl game since 2005 and have gone bowling six out of the last seven years.
The Russell Athletic Bowl kicks off Dec. 28, which gives the program valuable time for developmental practices.
