Speaking 1-on-1 with, Alexander discussed his transition to the offensive line and his mentors at his new position.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Rutgers has a history of success in moving defensive linemen to offense, highlighted most recently by Desmond Wynn.

Sophomore Taj Alexander hopes to be the next success story. After changing from defensive tackle to right tackle in the middle of last season, Alexander is a first-teamer to begin spring practice.

The Downingtown East (Exton, Pa.) star will compete with fifth-year senior R.J. Dill for the starting job and the two have already become close friends, Alexander said.

"I think he's learning how to be an offensive lineman now," said head coach Kyle Flood of Alexander. "At first, he was a big strong athlete who was playing offensive line. Now he's learning how to be an offensive lineman. He looks more natural out there. That's what I've seen with the naked eye through the first two days. Again, until the pads go on, I try not to examine it too closely." Recommended Stories
