PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- If the Rutgers basketball team's opponents learn anything from the team's exhibition against Rutgers-Newark Sunday, watch out for freshman guard Elijah Carter because he is not afraid to shoot the basketball.

Carter, who started alongside freshman guards Myles Mack and Jerome Seagears, led the team in scoring with 18 on 7-of-15 shooting. Carter hit 66 percent of his shots from long range and pulled down three boards in his role as combo guard.

Losing Jonathan Mitchell and James Beatty in the offseason, head coach Mike Rice needs more go-to scorers and the freshman put his name in the race Sunday.
