Though his father spent
six years at defensive end for coach Bill Parcells - then with the Giants,
now with Dallas - Aaron Martin says it was the son of Parcells' old quarterback
who really got him a shot with the Cowboys.
"My big break," said Martin, who has signed a free-agent contract,
"came when Chris Simms called."

Leon Shade (Montclair, NJ) entered the game in the bottom of the sixth inning
as a defensive replacement, but it was his offense that provided the difference
in Rutgers 10-7, come-from-behind, 10-inning victory over Lafayette
this afternoon. Shade was 2-for-2 with a walk, three RBI and three runs scored
as Rutgers rebounded from a 6-1 deficit for its 11th-straight victory in a
game that featured 24 hits, 12 errors and took 3:25 to complete. Rutgers is
now 23-14 overall.

Villanueva woke up late yesterday morning, still not knowing what he is going
to do. The All-American from Brooklyn who had verbally committed to Illinois
did not know that former Southern Illinois coach Bruce Weber would be introduced
as the new coach of Illini.
"I haven't heard anything," Villanueva said from his dorm room at
Blair Academy in New Jersey. "I guess I pretty much have to look into
it now. All the assistant coaches went to Kansas with Coach (Bill) Self, so
I haven't really talked to anyone from Illinois."
