Morgan: "Nobody in the Lead"

Wayne Morgan appeared all-but ready to make his decision a few weeks ago before deciding to slow things down in a big way. Morgan spoke with ScarletReport.com about the reasons for his new decision timetable and what it means for Rutgers, a school in his top two before he pushed things back.

At the same time Michigan picked up its third commitment at the defensive back position at the beginning of June, Bishop Erasmus (Brooklyn, N.Y.) safety Wayne Morgan decided to slow his recruitment.

The Wolverines already have 16 verbal commitments to the Class of 2012 and are no longer recruiting Morgan. The four-star, 5-foot-11, 191-pound safety plans to start from scratch with a decision not coming any time soon, he said.

"There is nobody in the lead because I'm slowing it down," Morgan said. "Everyone is sort of the same."

Much of Morgan's decision to slow down was at the behest of his parents, he said, but he agreed that things were moving too fast.

"Things are good," Morgan said. "It's different than before, but I just thought I was rushing things a bit. It's better to just wait. My parents felt like things were going too fast and I took their word for it."

The new plan, Morgan said, is to spend some time away from recruiting before looking back into things later on and making a verbal commitment at a post-season all-star game.

"I need the right amount of time to come to the best decision for me and my family," he said.

Morgan holds eight verbal offers including Alabama, Penn State and Miami, but said he feels the most comfortable with Rutgers and Connecticut. Before the decision to slow his decision, Morgan had Rutgers as his second leader behind Michigan.

"I like Rutgers because I'm always in contact with them," Morgan said. "They're good people. It's consistent. I know some players from the team already and I love the coaches. I talk to Coach [Greg] Schiano and he's great and [assistant coach Kyle] Flood."
