Dual-sport Pyke Camping at Rutgers?

Greg Pyke

Boys' Latin School (Baltimore) offensive tackle Greg Pyke is hitting a few camps this month, and he spoke to ScarletReport.com about whether Rutgers is one of those destinations. He also spoke about the Scarlet Knights' recent push in recruiting him, and what he thinks of it, as well as whether the highly-rated lacrosse player will be a dual-sport athlete in college.

One of the elite two-sport athletes in the country is planning a visit to Rutgers' lineman camp this month, and he said it signals his interest in the Scarlet Knights and it is not a mere formality.

Boys' Latin School (Baltimore) offensive lineman Greg Pyke, who is rated as one of the top 10 lacrosse players in his class by Inside Lacrosse, has plans to camp at Rutgers.

"I was thinking of going to the offensive line camp there, and I was going to do it before going Alabama to get ready," Pyke said.

The 6-foot-5, 280-pound Pyke isn't just heading to Rutgers for the camping experience, though. During the spring evaluation period, the Scarlet Knights made in-roads with Pyke, who recently listed Maryland, Virginia, Penn State and Alabama (no offer) as schools of high interest.

"I have interest," Pyke said of Rutgers. "The recruiter that (talks) to me a lot is P.J. Fleck. He's a great guy. He pretty much opened my eyes to recruiting. I like him a lot."

Pyke's visit to Rutgers will give him a chance to see the campus from a football and student-athlete perspective, but it won't be his first visit to the area.

"I've been up to the school before, but it wasn't for a visit," he said. "I had a lacrosse tournament there and I was around the school."

And lacrosse isn't only a hobby.

In ranking the top 50 juniors in the nation during the offseason, Inside Lacrosse ranked Pyke, an attacker, as the No. 8 prospect in the nation.

So, does he have thoughts of mixing football and lacrosse in college?

"I could play lacrosse, but I'm going to play football," he said. "Football is definitely something I like. Moving around the offensive line, hitting people …I love playing lacrosse, and coming from (Boys' Latin), where we're a lacrosse school, but I feel a lot better playing football.

"A lot of schools said I could try (and play both), but I think I'm going to just play football."
