Florida TE Preparing for Summer Camp Circuit
David will not be able to do much at the camp, recovering from an ACL tear, but he said he is excited to come up to New Jersey with his head coach and his teammate Fred McRae. McRae, a wide receiver, also has an RU offer.
"My coach won't let me do much because of my knee," David said. "I'm probably going to go up though. I'm going to camps to try to just get to know coaches and meet people."
David is a 6-foot-3, 210-pound tight end recruit for the class of 2012. He has six verbal offers from Rutgers, Illinois, Memphis, Nebraska, South Florida and Central Florida.
David has also been receiving increased interest from Florida State and Texas Tech, he said, and thinks offers may be coming.
The camp circuit, however, will not be a time for David to make a verbal commitment. His plan is to take the process down to the wire.
"I'm going to wait until the season is over with," David said. "The season is what's important now."
David said he has no favorites and a top-six of the six schools to give him verbal offers.
"I'm hearing a lot of things from a lot of coaches," David said. "I'm trying to listen to it all but not let it affect me too much because how I feel now isn't how I'm going to feel in January. I'm focused on the season now."
On Rutgers, David said, "I hear it's very cold up there, but I like talking to their coaching staff. They seem like good people and they have a lot of people from Florida on their team."
In his injury rehabilitation process, David made significant progress in the beginning of May. He expects to be full-go in September for the start of his senior season, he said.
"I'm doing fine," David said. "I went jogging [yesterday]. That's a good step. Right now I'm just rehabbing. I tore my ACL and I'm just trying to get back into game shape."
David's severe injury was a disappointment on the field, he said, but contact with colleges never slowed down.
"It's great, especially with my injury. All these schools want me even though I got hurt. I'm grateful for that.
