Beau Bachety has been in the football program since 2008, and has spent the time on the scout team offense.
As ScarletReport.com’s “Know the Knights” series continues, we take a look at one of the not-so-well-known members of the Scarlet Knights.
2011 Eligibility: Red-shirt junior
Ht.: 6-4 Wt: 260
High school: Babylon (N.Y.) High
Background: Walk-on will enter his fourth season in the program in the fall, and it has all been spent on the scout team. …Entered Rutgers as a tight end and moved to offensive line last spring. …Played defensive end and tight end in high school as a senior in high school. Made 50 tackles and had eight sacks as a senior. …Played linebacker and made 40 tackles in five games as a junior at Babylon High.
Projected 2011 Role: When center Howard Barbieri went down early in spring practice last year, Bachety moved into a move visible role as he sometimes took snaps with the second-team offense.
Bachety also had the opportunity to try his hand at long-snapping, but among the things he had to work on was gaining weight and strength as he made the move from tight end to the offensive line.
As spring practice gets underway, Bachety remains deep on the depth chart and something unforeseen would need to happen for him to get into the mix on the offensive line two-deep. However, if he improved his long-snapping, he could get a shot at that position.
