Family Ties With Rutgers For Florida Offeree

DeAndre Jasper

Miami Jackson receiver De'Andre Jasper already held offers from Florida State and Central Florida, and this week he grabbed a verbal offer from Rutgers. So, does he give the Scarlet Knights a chance? Jasper says he does because his cousin was a standout at Rutgers under coach Greg Schiano.

When DeAndre Jasper received an a verbal offer from Rutgers, he reached out to one of the best receivers to play for the Scarlet Knights during coach Greg Schiano's tenure.

He called his cousin, Tim Brown.

"I haven't talked to him yet," said Jasper, 5-foot-10, 175-pound receiver from Miami Jackson High. "I'm trying to get in touch with him to talk to him about Rutgers to talk to him. I watched him a lot."

Jasper also holds verbal offers from Florida State and Central Florida, and is getting interest from Florida, Miami, Texas Tech, USF, Wisconsin and Indiana.

"Growing up, because of where I'm from, it was Miami and Florida," Jasper said of his childhood favorite programs. "It doesn't matter where I play. I'm open to everyone."

Although Jasper is rooted in Florida, he has exposure to Rutgers through Brown.

Brown was known for his blazing speed, and he holds the school record with 20 touchdown catches.

"His speed and his explosiveness stands out," said Jasper, who was asked who would win a race between the two. "He'd probably beat me by a step or two."

Jasper made 26 catches for 500 yards as a junior, and also plays defensive back.

College are looking at him for a variety of positions, but he has a slight preference.

"Receiver; that's what I grew up playing," Jasper said. "I like catching the ball and putting points on the board. But they can put me anywhere, corner or safety. Anywhere they put me, I'll be fine and I'll play."
