Jones Eyeing Official To Rutgers

Raines High (Jacksonville, Fla.) defensive tackle Chris Jones isn't sure which schools will get his official vists, but he knows one for sure and he shared it with ScarletReport.com. The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Jones also talked about a time frame for such visits, and shared his knowledge level of the Scarlet Knights.

Now that a cell phone issue is rectified, Raines High (Jacksonville, Fla.) defensive tackle Chris Jones finds his recruitment increasing dramatically.

The 6-foot-5, 265-pound Jones, who holds a Rutgers offer, took an unofficial visit to North Carolina to watch the Tar Heels play Clemson earlier this month, but is holding off on making official visits.

"I'm really still open, but football is football," Jones said. "Where ever I go, I go, but I'm not worrying about that until the season is over with. I'm not going (on official visits) until after the season.

"I went to the North Carolina-Clemson game. It was fun. I do get to (speak to the coaches), but you see the football game environment."

Jones was raised in Harlem before he moved to Jacksonville a few years ago. But being in New York, he is familiar with the Big East and knows plenty about Rutgers, a program he is hearing from frequently.

"I am familiar with their program. Everything is positive with them," Jones said. "They tell me how they would use me. They're really interested in me and they think I could have an impact on the defense."

Jones, who holds double digit offers, isn't sure where he make his official visits to, but the Scarlet Knights are on his list.

"They're most definitely one I will go to," he said. "I want to check them out."

One interesting aspect of Jones' recruitment is his ability to play on both sides of the ball. Although most schools are recruiting him to play defensive tackle, he believes he can also be a very good offensive lineman in college.

However, his current focus is on winning the Florida Class 2A state title.

Raines is 8-0, and there is talk on the team about finishing undefeated.

"We can, but we're playing tough teams," Jones said. "It's not like we've got a cakewalk. We're playing 6A schools and 5A schools. We're not playing 2A schools. We're playing all these big schools and beating them. We don't worry about anything."
